For Japan....

As you all know Japan is going through a terrible time. Between natural disasters and nuclear reactors their homes have been lost, families have gone missing, and the devastation is unimaginable. The fabulous people over at Ever Ours and Utterly Engaged are stepping up in the blogging world to help out. They have organized this:

They have organized a day of silence within the blogging community and also they are collecting funds to donate to Shelterbox in order to help those in Japan.

So head on over to their sites for more information or to donate. They are really doing a great thing.

Kudos Ladies!

Finished the Dresser!

If you remember the dresser I decided to finish even though it was being a pooper, I kept my word! I actually liked the way it turned out. It was cute. And that annoying, uncooperative top, ended up being my favorite part. Here are pictures!
Finished top after hand painting.

Dresser Refinish

There was an old dresser in my grandpa's old bedroom. It was made of laminate and pressboard and was pretty much a P.O.S. The family wanted to chuck it but I decided this would be a great play piece for me that I could store my craft crap in. Now I KNOW you need to prime this ish before you paint it, but the thing will sit in the basement and basically I wasn't looking to spend ANY money. So I just had at it.

I forgot to take a before pic, so i took one as sooon as i remembered.
As you can see I went with white. Look at the streaks. Gonna need a ton of coats!

Side view.

Then I decided to mod podge the top with a shopping bag that I loved the pattern on. So I cut it up and stuck it on. BUBBLES AND RIPPLES GALORE!

Looks okay at first glance

Chipping already

Coming up on the side.

After seeing this I was annoyed. Like rip it off and throw the thing out the window annoyed. Then i realized ... Eff it. Its gonna end up in my basement anyway. So what if their are a few flaws. So i left it. And I WILL finish it. I think I may continue the awesome pattern with paint onto the white so it has a fading like effect. I am also planning on hand painting the front. I'm DREAMING BIG!!!!

I'll take pictures upon completion!!!

In Memory Of....

In a previous post I told everyone how my grandfather passed away and how my family was making his urn. We made a two person urn where we co-mingled my grandfather and my grandmother (who passed years ago). My dad did all the wood working and staining. I created the vinyl letters, and mom put em on. The urn ended up looking very beautiful. I know this is a morbid post, so I'll show you the pictures and allow you to continue.

Rest in Peace Grandma and Grandpa

YAY for Birthday Presents

So like I said yesterday was my birthday. It was also Valentine's Day. Today is my one year anniversary with my boyfriend. Sooo He had a lot of pressure. He did well though. First off he got me
This awesome I-Pod touch (I love how my camera is so good you can see the fingerprints on the screen)

He also got me these GORGEOUS
Flowers. There was a teddy bear in there, but he's in my bed now.

THEN, for my birthday one of my best friends who moved to Hawaii (YES Im jealous) sent me a authentic Hawaiian Lei.
At first look you think its corn kernels, but its actually little shells. I love the color.

My parents gave me some moola and some odd and ends

I treated myself to a $13 pair of gorgeous boots.

My brother and his wife got me a gift card to, where else, but my favorite store

Finally, the teacher I use to work with brought her new baby in (Oh melt my heart!) and brought me this

I bet you can figure out what I'll be doing a lot!!!

Overall it was a great birthday with great people.

On a side note, the reason I have been so MIA lately (aside from my grandpa passing) is this:

My lovely boyfriend has gotten me absolutely 100% insanely obsessed with this show!!!! Have any of you seen it?! I'm only on the second season (I believe there are 6) and I cannot seem to look away! It has consumed me!! If you have not seen this show. I highly suggest you buy, rent, steal, do WHATEVER you have to, in order to see it. It' worth the jail time!!! Ha.
